Understanding Toluene in Nail Products

At Y A N A™, formulation begins with intention — guided by purpose, defined through detail.

As part of our 21-Free standard, we continue to explore the ingredients we choose not to use, and the role they have played in traditional nail products.

Toluene is a solvent historically used in nail products to maintain fluidity within a formula. In traditional nail polish formulations, it helped provide control and stability, allowing ingredients to remain evenly distributed and the formula to stay consistent from bottle to application.

As a volatile solvent, toluene evaporates into the air during use and has been part of ongoing conversations surrounding air quality and sensitivity in beauty environments.

At Y A N A™, toluene is not included in our formulas. Our approach focuses on achieving a balanced, cohesive formula through alternative ingredients that align with our clean-care philosophy.

21-Free is not about removal — it is about intention.

Each formula is designed to bring balance, experience, and a more conscious approach to beauty.

Clean.Conscious.Nail Lacquer
That is the Y A N A™ Standard.
